How the roles of women have expanded in local government, business and
public affairs.
September 22 – “The Evolution of How We Live”
The transition from 1821 pole and bark homes to modern living, styles,
materials, electrical servants, communication, and transportation.
October 6 – “County Government 1821 - 2011”
How it was, how it has grown, what you get and what you pay.
October 20 – “Escambia County’s Culture”
How organizations have come and grown from 1885 to 2011.
November 3 – “Pensacola and the Motion Picture”
Original peep shows, the Saenger and then the RAVE. Use
of cinema in education and training, its presence in TV, and the ability to
bring films into the home. Highlights of film stars and methods of production.
November 17 – “NW Florida’s Development of Personal Horticulture”
How and why families began to use bushes and flowers, the making of
Lawns, how and why and today’s problems.
December 1 – “A Study of Our Compassion Services”
How organizations help us help one another, from the the Poor Farm
and Pearl Eagen Home to today’s array of services and the future of
United Way.
Pensacola Heritage Foundation ReDiscovery Lecture series begins September the 8th and runs every other Thursday through December the 1st at the Bowden Building located at 120 East Church Street. Lectures begin at noon. No cost to Pensacola Heritage Foundation members, $5.00 for non-members. Lunch from Shoreline Deli is available at a cost of $10.00. Reservations are required.
